I always admired the Germans for taking obsolete tank chassis and bodies to make a better weapon. The Marder II is no exception and I had all of the elements right in front of me to make one out of several spares from three various kits.
First: the chassis was from the Tamiya PkzKw II a light tank that the Germans stopped using as the 3.7cm cannon was out-gunned.
Second: I had the original Tamiya 7.5cm anti tank gun kit with the crew on hand from an old collection.
Third: I had left over side shields from an older Academy Stug IV kit that I used to build up the armor shields.
After figuring out the design of the Marder II was straight forward and looking at many photos I put together this highly modified combination of kits only to see that Tamiya released one, but I have my own version now that isn't too far off.
