Reviews : Academy F-4J VF-84 Jolly Rogers

Kit contains 8 multi-colored sprues and 1 sprue for the clear parts. Fit is very good and is said to be a “snap tight” model. Sprues are color specific i.e. tires, radome tail etc. are on a black sprue. Gear struts, landing gear doors, etc. are on a white sprue. Great for kids, since it doesn’t need to be painted, but serious modelers are going to want to paint the parts anyway. Cockpit detail is just OK, could probably stand a photo-etch set, but since there is no option for an open canopy, probably not necessary. Surface detail is very nice with recessed panel lines and raised details where appropriate. Good supply of ordinance (sidewinders, sparrows and bombs). There is an option for gear up or down. Decals are from Cartograf and are awesome. Great kit, no issues.

This is a great model by Academy. The pieces all fit together beautifully, and since it can be built as a snaptite, everything holds in place perfectly for using extra thin glue. The detail is crisp, there was little to no flash, the Decals are excellent, and there’s tons of them. This honestly has to be the best F-4 kit on the market.

This is an easy to assemble F-4J with a weapons load. I appreciate the fact that it includes a lot of ordinance. I was able to load it out for air-to-air combat and have extra bombs left for other aircraft that don't include ordinance. I used Aftermarket decals to make this one a Black Bunny.
