Great detail for the scale
This is one of the better detailed Titanic models for the smaller scales. The great detail is a double edged sword though, the rivet/plating detail is amazing but maybe a little to much for this scale. One option is to build this kit without paint which is great for younger or new modelers, I chose to paint mine and it does tone down the hull detail a bit making it look more realistic. Overall this is a great kit and goes together nicely. I did purchase and recommend the addition Tom's Photo Etch sets or getting a Rainbow PE set which takes this ship to the next level. The PE is for the more experienced modeler. Again, this kit is a nice model and doesnt require painting if you wish to get it for the younger modeler. Great little kit and worth the money.
Paonting for accuracy
I'm building the older release of this model but there doesn't seem to be a lot of difference. The fit of the parts is very good with little or no flash. It's nice that they molded the kit in 5 colors so you don't need to paint the hull. However I did give the deck a wash with Tamiya panel line paint to bring out the wood grain a little. I also painted the stacks which are way too orange. I used an old bottle of Polyscale PRR Depot Buff. It's a nearly perfect match for the photos I've seen of the Titanic. Overall a really nice kit. I'm building this for my cousin's daughter but I plan on buying the 1:400 scale version for myself. More parts but at least they're larger.
A fun and educational build with children.
What a wonderful looking ship. Lots of detail, and the spec that came with the model was very good. I like the fact that the specs gave you the option to leave the model the way it was or re-paint it your way. I personally painted only what needed to be painted and left the rest of the model with the original colors that it came with. Also. a good model to build with children, because of the historical aspect of the ship. The only con I found was the decals. They were very fragile to work with and also did not adhere to the model very well. I also had a tough time with the flag, placing them around the masts. Again, very poor adhesion quality.
