Alclad II Paint Alclad II offers a line of metalizer paints that is outstanding. I have been using these paints for years and the results I get are amazingly realistic. You can get some really good results too, if you know how to use them. The most important thing to remember with these lacquer paints is to properly prepare the surface. If you just spray them on to a model without prepping the plastic you will get results that leave a lot to be desired. You will probably also end up with some degree of crazing on the surface of your plastic. You must prime the surface with a good quality primer to prevent crazing. Be sure to remove all the mould lines and scratches. Any scratches, hair, dust or other irregularities will stand out with these paints. If you are doing a shiny color like chrome and polished aluminum need to have a gloss finish to look best. So if you want a really nice chrome finish, you will need to remove all the lines, prime, let it dry, spray gloss black, let it dry, spray the chrome, let it dry for about five minutes, spray a second coat of chrome and if needed a third coat, let it dry for 24 hours, and spray a clear gloss coat because the colors are very delicate and will wear off with handling and masking. I use Tamiya spray can gloss black and get good results. I also use the All Clad 2 gloss clear coat for the best results. When you spray the All Clad 2 paint, you need a really low pressure of about 10 psi, and you also need to really reduce the paint flow. Is it worth all the trouble to get a good metallic finish? I would recommend you try it first, then make the decision for yourself. Pros-This is the best and most realistic metal finish I have been able to get. Many colors to meet all your needs. Cons- This paint is not cheap. It is very volatile. That means it evaporates quickly. Surface prep and primer-base coats are time consuming, Regular colors that are available at the time of this review are; ALC-101 Aluminium, ALC-102 DurAluminium, ALC-103 Dark Aluminium, ALC-104 Pale Burnt Metal, ALC-106 White Aluminium, ALC-108 Pale Gold, ALC-110 Copper, ALC-111 Magnesium, ALC-112 Steel, ALC-113 Jet Exhaust, ALC-116 Semi Matte Aluminium, ALC-117 Dull Aluminium, ALC-120 Gun Metal, ALC-121 Burnt Iron, ALC-123 Exhaust Manifold. The colors listed as Lexan should not be used for styrene. Would I recommend these paints? Yes absolutely.

This chrome lacquer delivers an outstanding metallic finish and is one of the best options I've used for scale models. When applied over a smooth, glossy black base, it produces a bright, realistic chrome effect that looks fantastic. The paint sprays evenly, covers well, and creates a very fine metallic surface without looking grainy. It's especially impressive on small details, landing gear, and polished metal parts. Proper surface preparation is essential to get the best results, but the extra effort is definitely worth it. The final appearance is smooth, reflective, and highly convincing. Overall, this is an excellent product for modelers looking for a high-quality chrome finish. Highly recommended and definitely something I'll keep using in future projects.

Very finicky, but once you learn how to use it is the best I have used. Contrary to what the directions say I spray piece with gloss black enamel or laquer( decanted Rust-Oleum) give it about 10 to 20 minutes, or until just barely touchable and then spray on the chrome in very light mist coats. If it looks like there's not enough chrome just give it a minute and look it over before applying more as too much will give you a silver paint effect. Hope this helps.

I saw this paint on a YouTube video about airbrush painting thought I would try it I have used extreme metal chrome paint and this is superior paint. it went down great and it is the best chrome paint ever seen. WOW!! is all I have to say. Got it here at HobbyLinc because they had best price. Do yourself a favor and step up your model looks by chroming any part check out my picture, exhaust parts Alclad chrome the bumper extreme metal what a difference.

Alclad is by far the best for realistic chrome. It's not the easiest to work with as you need the gloss black primer and good surface prep is key. Make sure your surface is clean (I use alcohol prep pads to remove dust and oils) and spray a good coverage of the Alclad gloss black. Keep it free of dust while drying and give it plenty of cure time. The chrome will then look awesome.

Love this stuff. Airbrushes beautifully. Use straight from the bottle, no thinning needed. Lacquer based so clean up is easy with lacquer thinner or acetone. Just don't get thinner or acetone on the air valve o-rings of your airbrush. Dries quick, cures very hard. Must use over gloss black base and perfectly smooth surface. I have not tried to brush it. My only complaint is the price.

I used this paint on several aircraft projects where a polished chrome finish was essential. As long as you take your time and be patient with experimenting, this paint produces outstanding results. I get excellent results with using a black gloss enamel base then a light coat of this lacquer. Lightly buff with a microfiber cloth. Beautiful finish every time!

I recently ordered several different Alclad paints and found them very simple to use. The black primer looks like black chrome. When the chrome is painted over the black primer it makes a realistic chrome. Give your chrome on models more realistic. Takes away the toy like look model kits have

This chrome can't be beat if you get the surface perfect, get the gloss black perfect, and then use just the right amount of chrome. This is really hard to do every time. If you need to know what it is supposed to look like; spray it on the lid of the bottle

I followed the instructions and what a result. A deep black chrome with great sheen. Be sure to use the proper primer and clear coat. I had no problems airbrushing straight out of the bottle. Use light coats. It makes a difference.

Spraying this product over gloss black makes for a very realistic chrome. It dries fast and is very durable, it won’t smudge off like say Molotow. I use krylon gloss black that I decant and spray with my airbrush.

Amazing product. application was just a few sprays using an air brush over the gloss black base. Great mirror finish when done correctly. One of the best looking paints as well as great quality product.

Here's a bottle of the Chrome lacquer it says airbrush I'll find out how it works with a paintbrush it looks like it's real Chrome and it looks like it will work really well

The closest thing I've found next to foil. Just make sure you use a high gloss black paint under the alclad. Don't handle part to much after painting as it will affect sheen.

This is by far the best chrome I have ever shot. Smooth and very reflective. Shoot over black base. Seal with Alclad Aqua Gloss. Wear a mask.

This looks great in the bottle. I not used it yet . I plan on using for the AMT Thunderbird kit I have . Can't wait to use it.

I love Alclad products they perform flawlessly.I recommend using their gloss black as a base coat and their clear coat as well.

Alclad is a bit tricky to spray but gives good results that llows you to chrome all kinds of parts on your models.

This was the best chrome paint for some of my model kit especially the Monogram Blue Angel A-4F Skyhawk model kit.
