Reviews : AMT '65 Pontiac GTO

This kit was originally tooled as an annual back in 1965. The chassis is promo style with everything molded in but the engine.The X spoke steering wheel in the kit was a 1964 option. The 65 GTO had a 3 spoke steering wheel as standard equipment. The interior door pattern is a little off and very shallow in detail. The center console is not quite right. A convertible boot is supplied, but not the sun visors. If not careful, the windshield glass can interfere with the interior reaching the tops of the door sills when mated to the body. The hood scoop should not be chrome. So... having nit-picked all of that, the body detail is crisp and clean and the kit still builds into a very nice looking representation of a 1965 Pontiac GTO.

The biggest challenge with this model was installing the hardtop option. It would be nice if they were able to reissue this kit in the future with the roof molded into the body. The model I built is from an older release of a three pack of muscle cars. Looking online the new version comes with an excellent decal sheet and those nice Goodyear Polyglas tires. The interior and chassis have nice detailing. Overall the kit was easy and fun to build.

Nice if you want a convertible. the included 2 types of hard tops has fit issues!!
