Could have been better
Let me start of by saying I wasn't a fan at all with this kit. Loads of flash that had to be cleaned. The typical AMT old style instructions that were, at times, a little hard to follow. I was disappointed that the hood had no hinges and was just a slip in fit. I do like the chassis/engine details, so that's a plus. I wanted to give this 3 stars, but after it was done, I was surprised at it. AMT could have done better, but I was told this is a reissue of one the first AMT truck kits and they use the original tooling. That being said, if you have the patients, the kit turns out really well.
California Hauler
AMT’s California Hauler has all you would expect from a nearly 50 year old release. Flashing. Ill fitting parts and sketchy instructions. All perfectly acceptable if you know that going in. The sleeper has been retooled but I built mine as a day cab and can’t offer an opinion. Experienced builders will have a good time cause there is endless customizing opportunities. Inexperienced builders should buy this while it’s available and put it away til you’ve got some smaller builds done. If you fancy the big rigs, you’ll know that every collection needs a Peterbilt conventional. Have fun!
