Reviews : AMT Chevy Camaro Z28 1970 1/2

This was the third AMT in a row that gave me issues, but this model was the worst. The orange parts were a challenge to cover with paint, and primer is highly recommended. The flashing was overwhelming, and the big dent in the roof was an indicator of issues to come. Once I had the car completely painted, I realized the hood was completely warped. This was a disastrous discovery. When I got over the disappointment of a warped hood, I assumed my quest to finish the project. Nothing wanted to fit, and I have a hole in the firewall due to a missing part. If this didn't have the best paint job I ever done, I would give this kit a poor rating. This project was so badly manufactured that I will be avoiding AMT kits for awhile. That's really disappointing because I have a 83 Camaro that's still in the box. I have to let it sit for awhile to avoid another nerve-racking build. This kit 70 1/2 Camaro kit is not for beginners at all! I say just avoid it all together.

i always loved the second generation camaros, so i was happy to find this kit. it builds into an accurate representaion of a bone stock z-28, with no optional parts. some minor body issues will require filling and filing, but i made it all work. the stance is actually accurate as designed, because the second gen camaros sat a little high in front ; that's just the way they were. i enjoyed the detailed chassis and interior, and was very happy with the results. i suggest cutting the decal stripes to fit the hood and cowl, and rear spoiler areas into separate pieces before soaking them; they had trouble bending over some of the contours, but i made it all work. i would recomend this kit to fans of this generation camaro. some modelling experienc will help, but overall it's a good build.

I must say I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this kit! interior detail was above average for AMT, although I found the rims included very disappointing=the slots on the wheels were mostly flashed over and they were molded in neon orange as was the rest of the kit! have plenty of paint on hand as it takes several coats to put out the NEON! I ended up finding a set of US Mags that looked very similar to the stock Z28's I was also unhappy with the lack of chrome plated parts Grille, Bumpers and shifter are it. the headlight/turn signal trim on the body must be painted but hey so does the window trim on every kit unless you use foil. I found this kit includes a stock height rear axle as well as a raised version that I really liked! All in all a nice offering from AMT/Round 2

Absolutely every piece in my kit had a full set of flash wings. Now, I have been modeling for a long time and can handle a bit of flash but not like this. For starters the tooling is really old and the detail was only suggestive at best. My engine block looked like chewed tangerine bubble gum...with flash. Cleaning flash off of tiny parts must just be a pet peeve of mine because I put this thing away years ago. Last week I took the box down and decided to complete it, but the part I saw on the inside brought back bad memories. This was the worst kit I ever had the chance to work on. We will see what the finished product looks like, but I would recommend a different kit especially if this is for a beginner or someone with limited tools.

Okay, right off the bat – why orange plastic? Yuck! Flash all over a multitude of parts. Detail is nice, but cleaning is painful and costs a lot of time to get all of it. Yes, the stance of the vehicle looks nice, but the fitment was tricky and the front wheel attachment points are really weak! In fact, broke the front driver’s side wheel off the yoke while trying to fit the lower front chin on the car! Now, with that off my chest – would I try it again? Maybe, as long as the price stays low, but that was an expensive lesson to learn, but learn it I did. Only because of the price I would recommend it. Too bad because Camaros from that era really are beautiful vehicles!

Prepare to trim a lot of excess plastic from the parts, and possibly some repairs on the headlights and passenger side rocker panel at the back of the front fender. With that being said, everything else about this kit is well done. The interior and chassis are nicely detailed, and all the parts fit together rather well. I can't comment on the decals because I didn't use them, but they look nice. I heavily modified mine, but it did go together well and I bought a second one to build as a factory stock piece.

As others have mentioned, this model is not high quality. The pieces have significant fit issues, horrible molding, tons of flash, you name it. If you want a model to hone your skills on forcing things to fit, then give this one a try. Ultimately, I couldn't get the body to fit on the chassis & tub, and ended up tossing it in the trash after having gone through all, and I mean a LOT, of trouble to build the thing. Incredibly disappointing model kit. It feels like this is a retread of a retread of the mold.

I am sorry. I was excited to get this kit. I opened it to a sea of orange and all in all a boat load of time trimming flash, sanding pieces as many of them did not fit properly. Also, it is a pain for me because I prime everything not chrome or glass...so I had to use more primer because of the horrible base color. But modeling is about the build and I can make something out of it. Maybe might just have been a fluke

I really like these kits, I am building a series of the 1970 Camaros. The parts fit well and present no assembly problems. the only problem with the kit is that the orange plastic is very hard to paint over. The orange tends to bleed thru the paint. You must spray these cars with a good coat of primer before painting. On the other hand, the orange polishes out nicely if you don't want to paint the car.

While the orange is hideous, the kit overall is a good one. Especially for the price. Mine had very little flash, few mold lines and one tiny sinkhole on the exterior that needed to be filled. Not a lot of options in this one but everything fit just like it was supposed to. One small tip: You may want to assemble the front suspension with the spindles upside down to get the ride height/stance right.

Overall this is a good basic kit. I like the detail on the engine block, the top of the pistons are molded in. The valve covers have the rocker arms molded in also. The wheels and tires were a little disappointing, the tires did not fit well on the wheels, but with aftermarket options one can install different wheels/ tires. The should of never molded this in orange, just stick to while please.

I have returned to model building in my retirement as a hobby. This Camaro kit was very inexpensive. I was surprised how well the parts fit together. Very little flash to deal with. My greatest challenge with this kit was putting the body on the frame. I had difficulty fitting it all together. It sits a little high in front. Excellent model kit at any price.

Overall a good kit. Need to be ready to clean a lot of flashing, and clamp a lot of parts due to warping. Be sure to primer every thing, the orange molded color is hard to cover if you don't. Hardly any chrome parts. Decals very brittle after application. Definitely a time consumer and challenging.

Not bad for AMT, but there were some rough edges, and assembly issues. But it's actually pretty good for the price point. Cut the pegs off the underside of the exhaust pipes and muffler though, or it sticks down really hideously, and shave the front springs slightly to avoid a nose-up look.

This was a great model to build. There was plenty of detail, though I chose to use a photo etch kit for added detail. The only issue I had was that the racing stripes were a pain to get situated and ripped in a few places. Check it out on my blog: theonetwentyfour.blogspot.com

Not crazy about the mold. Lots of sanding and fixing on the body itself. But other than that not too bad. Used a lot of different parts to customize mine and piece it together as an old school gasser. Regardless. Still a fun kit. Just need some extra work to get it perfect.

A big disappointment. The box didn't have the tail lights and the plastic rear glass was broken. The parts didn't align well at all. It was a struggle to even complete the car and it wasn't complete! One of the worst kits I've purchased and I have purchased a lot!

Overall his is a pretty good kit. Not much chrome or detail but it is decent. (The orange is hideous so primer should come with it.) I have a much older version that was molded in gray that I built like the actual car I had back in the late '70's.

This kit was my first build in 40+ years. It was a bit of a challenge but came together in the end. AMT could improve the fit, and clarity of the instructions. But I believe these kits are supposed to be a challenge. In the end I really enjoyed it.

This kit has been over produced. Not sure why they continue to push this one out. Lots of flash on the parts that need cleaned up. Its my favorite Camaro but just wish it got some retooling. The price kind of reflects in the quality of the kit.

Received package a day early was very happy about that Thanks for being a GREAT and HONEST co. Makes me secure enough to trash my debt card like I did this month...LOL no dents or dings every thing came perfect. Roy Phoenix

Excessive flash on most parts,making them fit together took more trimming and cutting. Ended up kit bashing a bunch of parts from other kits just to avoid the hassle and get away from prepping all the orange for paint.

I had some difficulty with the suspension because it was missing a piece. Had to engineer my own part to make it work but still couldn't get the stance to sit good. Car still looks good though.

Good first glue kit. Nicely detailed interior and under the hood. Decals were weak. Tore easily. Everything fit okay. I’d build this again. Good practice kit. Have fun!

Price was excellent. Kit arrived in perfect condition. Was very glad to find this kit. Only drawback is the kit is molded in orange which will make it difficult to paint.

I'm going full custom on mine, so hard to completely judge, but all in all looks good to me. Would be better molded in white, but that is OK with what I'm doing with it.

This, I purchased as a starter to get back into the hobby. It's directions are easy and parts are molded relatively well, only requiring a bit of cleanup.

amt did a really good job one this one parts are going together nicely and it is really looking like a 1970 camaro am really pleased with the overall kit

The orange is on everything and better get some primer for every single part. Even the wheels are orange terrible come on where's the chrome? Terrible!

Pretty good kit overall, good bit of flashing to trim but not excessive. Body didn't fit the frame very well but for $15 you can't beat it!

I've had 2 of these now, tons of flash and 2 for 2 haven't been able to get the hood off the sprue with damaging it. Also molded in orange.

with i could have finished the car but lost several parts in the process of moving homes so i donated my left over parts to my parts stash

Body to chasis an EASY NUT TO CRACK Other than a warped hood & hard to fit lower radiator hose this one will be DRIVEN BY THE SEA

This is a great build, and the sprues have less flash than most models these days. Easy to build and great looking when done

AMT REISSUED KIT BUT CAN BE DETAILED. NICE MOLD QUALITY. JUST NEEDS MORE UNDERHOOD DETAIL. GOOD RECOMMENDED ITEM.

A very accurate replica of the real car. The only minuses are the parts are orange & there's some flash.

Sweet kit, easy build and comes in a nice styrene orange. Clear coat over decals looks....well sweet!

It is molded in neon orange, but gray primer covers it well. It is a simple model to assemble.

Was a blast to build !!!! Think I’ll order a nother kit to build in a different color !!!

Love the kit. Could have been better if it was molded in white. Still came out great.

I built 2 and it was sort of complicated to put on rear decals. Otherwise detailed.

Good kit it was easy for me to build not to much flash and very few molding lines

This will look so nice sitting on the shelf next to my other Camaro's.

The suspention was a little tricky, but other than that I really liked it.

Do not buy! cheap and poorly molded in orange. All orange!!

Test fit, test fit, test fit!!!! Can turn out rather nice.
