Nice but some details just wrong
I received this kit for Father's Day from my kids as they saw that I was beginning to do some models. As I was a gearhead in my early 20's, I thought this was a fun gift. I have a friend with a real '66 Nova that he has been making Pro-Street for the last 20 years. The car as pictured on the box looks just like it. The pieces in this kit fit pretty well, but the front chassis is bad. The wheels are supposed to turn, but they are not tied together. It is better to fix them in place, but there is no feature to position them. It also sits with waaaaaay too much negative camber. As far as being pro-street, it is a bit of a stretch. First, the front seats are like stock 1966, with no head rest. Can you say whiplash? Also the tubbed rear chassis is a fun touch, but then leaf springs?????!!!!! Any pro-street Nova would also have a roll cage. It has a manual transmission as part of the engine, but the shifter on the floor is for an automatic. I also didn't like that the hood had to actually be cut in order to use the scoop, but there is no way to fit the hood on without cutting. And the air cleaner and velocity stacks don't work with the hood scoop. I like that the emblems are actually molded rather than decals, and the Weiand emblems on the valve covers are a nice touch. I would recommend a plain old Nova kit over this one.
Needed some work
First and foremost, this kit is a kitbashers dream with some great engine parts, and a prostreet chassis to hack up and melt to anything else you want to prostreet. However, I did have some difficulties with my copy. I understand that modeling is just that, modeling. But I like my kits to fit together just a bit easier. Everything was going great until it was time to put the chassis to the car. I don't know if I did something wrong or what, but I actually had to cut the back wheel tubs out completely, and moto tool sand ALOT of the interior tub of to get the chassis to come forward and have the wheels line up in the wheel wells. I had to take it apart and I did have the interior right where it needed to be, but found that I had some warpage in the interior tub, and the chassis. Was planning on taking this one to a show, but after all the modeling, I was lucky to just get it together. PROS: It is a good kit with lots of parts that can be used on other projects. Will look great with just about any color you could throw at it. Iconic prostreet car, as evidence by all the great product gallery pictures. CONS: Other complaints in the reviews about warpage, mine was no different. Blue plastic. Had to entirely cut out my wheel tubs to get chassis completely seated. I will probably buy a couple more, but just for the parts.
1966 Chevrolet Nova Pro Street Model kit from AMT
I love this kit i have ordered many it is a very cool kit lots of fun not much flash on the body which is nice this kit for me went together very well and easy it has a lot of detail which from my experiences is surprising usually for me AMT'S run me a lot of problems have a lot of flash and are hard to work with over all but this one was not like that made me think i was building a revell kit rather then an AMT kit the only thing i don't like about this kit is that the body and chassis are molded in a ugly blue but you can change the paint on it obviously there are so many different ways you could build this kit its just you would have to bash kits as this kit is meant to be built as it shows on the box rather then a 2 in 1 kit but other then it is really good and a lot of ways you could build this kit PROS: detailed kit, comes with and engine stand and an engine block, it fits together well CONS: A little bit of flash, Its molded in a ugly blue in my opinion i think everyone should have one of these kits in there collection as it is a really cool kit to build and has a good amount of detail and looks good on the shelf i highly recommend this to people but first make sure you have a little more experience then a beginner at skill level 2's
kit bashers delight!
this kit is awesome box stock or custom to he max with its tubed chassis thick back tires thin front tires and hood induction it looks so good on other kits or on this kit i used this kit in a unique way i took the body and chassis from the ford f-150 XLT from revell and lifted the back end up and threw those under it this kit has over 110 pieces molded in blue and chrome the chrome on this model is pretty good i will say i don't think it looks bad especially from an AMT kit or also known as a round 2 model kit my overall experience with this kit was good with minimal issues when building there is quite a bit of flash in some areas but nothing to hard to clean up this hood has a cut half way in the hood so when cutting the hood fully it is easier but also you can keep the hood stock PROS: cheap and easy on the wallet, fun to build, has a lot of kit basher pieces CONS: minor flash I love this kit and i definatley want to buy more because of it being a pro stock and having all the cool things that come with it like the big tires and the tubed chassis so on and so forth
Chevy Nova
I love this kit this kit is a lot of fun to build I love old cars so this is great for my collection this kit has a lot of cool ways you can customize it I want to add another one to my stash as this one looks so good PROS: cheap, fun to build, looks good, highly detailed, features a nice engine CONS: minor flash if you are thinking of picking up this kit then get it, it is a great kit for any old car collector and you will have many ways you can build this if I was going to give it a rating I would give it 10 out of 10 stars I am using this kit for a diorama I have about the first ever car show I went to my mom took a lot of pictures of the cars there so I build cars based on what was at the show and the beginning of my car addiction!
great kit all around
I've built two of these kits and have a third in my stash. Before this kit came out I built a Pro street using the stock kit and parts from one of the Don Garlitts swamp rat kits. The first of this kit I built box stock amd the second I added part as from Revells 55 Pro Comp car, making it into a nice little track car. The parts in this kit are worth the price of admission. Usable tto make any similar wheel base care a Pro Street or Pro Comp car. The only draw back to this car is the front suspension. It's a bit finicky. The other is it being molded in color. A good coat of prime takes care of that. I love this kit, I'm a bit of a fan of the second gen Nova.
Hit or Miss?
AMT always takes a hit. Their kits are kind of hit or miss depending on the era of the mold, whether there have been modifications to the mold, or what has happened to it since leaving the plant. Warped pieces screams misuse after leaving the plant, e.g. leaving in a window, near heat or humidity, etc.. This one was pretty average for AMT. The front suspension for me was a little finicky and it's pretty much the same as the 68 Chevelle Pro Street. The price, if you paid less then or equal to $20.00, is well worth what you get though. I should have bought two so I could do one stock. I'm a sucker for classic Chevy muscle cars.
Great Kit
This is the second kit of this model I've built and I plan on building it a third time. The instructions are clear. The parts have very little clean up and the fit is excellent. The first one I built turned out so well I had to do it again and really detail it up this time. I used bare metal foil on the engine compartment and it looks just like real sheet metal. I wired the engine and added fuel lines, carb linkage and braded lines. I used Testors Yellow Pearl for the body and I two toned the interior in brown and tan. I would recommend this kit to everyone. It's the best looking car on my shelf.
Not for the novice.
I am by far not a novice. Just a little rusty after a 20 year break building. However this is #5, 4th since the start of this year. Not impressed at all. Lots of flash, poor fitment, warped parts and a severe lack of detail in areas there should be. Body does not want to fit the chassis, had to narrow the front and rear axles, and it still touches the tires. Wheel base is off a bit. It was a fight all the way till the end. It does have a ton of good parts for bashing so I will buy it again. It seems to be a great example of low quality control on the RE manufactures. Come on R2, do better!
Nova Pro street
This nice kit to use for kit bashing with other cars to make a car pro street that isn't one or have the option to build another car as pro street car, I built several from the kit as is and I made them all look different just by the parts provided in the kit, and I also have a couple I have bashed with it. But all in all it's a good kit and very Reasonably priced. Its all in the vision you have of this car how you make it look, I'm going to continue buying this kit along just to have a couple extra. Thanks hobbylinc. I'm happy I discovered this site to purchase models
Some issues, but good overall
There is quite a bit of flash to take care of, but it wasn't too much of a issue. Nothing was warped too badly but I had to bend some plastic to fit. These issues are not prominent when you look at it. There isn't much detail underneath the car, but there is a good amount of it under the hood. Some decals will definitely spruce the car up a bit, but the paint job is the most important. I actually used automotive lacquer paint on this (with a lacquer primer of course) to get the gloss look I wanted. The paint job looks amazing after the effort.
Really worth the price
By: mrdjb
I've bought 3 of these Novas and never built one as it comes. I've borrowed the engine, chassis, tires & wheels for other build sand had to replace them with parts box parts. I think I've used every part that comes in the kit, just not the way they were intended. All the parts are fairly well detailed and fit nicely where I used them. My biggest complaint is that I don't really care for kits that are molded in color, getting paint to cover takes a little more effort. Will probably buy another though.
one hot wheel to another!
This kit has lots of potential, though the decal set leaves a bit to be desired. I have built 2 of them, I actually bought this one to utilize the Pro Street frame for another build. I built one to match a Hotwheels car I purchased for a build off, and won 2nd place with it. its easy to put together and would be a good kit for any intermediate builder as it has some smaller parts, that a novice might have trouble with. but all in all...a solid 7 out of 10 on the build scale!
nasty.
this kit look's nasty in a good way. has a sinister stance and just has that lean and mean vibe. nice fat slick's on the rear. an engine block and stand for display. molded in blue with no flash and sharp detail. chrome part's are clear and crisp and just pop. this is an impressive kit and im a ford man. but i will give this 2 thumb's up. if you are a chevy fan, or just like mean street rod's, you have to get this one.
Nice Nova
This is a nice rendition of a run-of-the-mill Pro Street Nova. Detail is good and molding is clean. There was little flash to clean up and only one mold line on the body that needed to be ever-so-slightly sanded. The instructions are clear and detailed. Overall this builds up into a nice drag car, but there really aren't any options to build it any way other than pictured without bashing some parts.
A+++ Plastic Model I Had Fun With This As Well
My Second Model I Put Together It Was Fun Putting This Together Its Not Like Revel I Always Choose AMT Are The Best In Models the pros on this is that i did'nt have any problems with it like putting it together though well round car i did'nt have any cons on this it was exactly what i figured this car would be put together i loved it i had with this one next one is a 1957 Chevy Bel Air
Not Quality Like Revell Models
From the pictures submitted by others I see they had better luck than I did. My previous experience with AMT models has been disappointing. This Nova had lots of flash to trim. The windshield was warped and would not lay on the area where it was supposed to. It took a lot of prying to get the body to mount to the chassis. Not much detail like Revell models have. I'll not buy an AMT model again.
It's not.....terrible
I personally did not like the detail level of this kit. It seems like the wheelbase doesn't fully match the wheel wells of the body. It has a cool bonus engine block and engine stand that actually detailed very nicely. But things like the interior and engine bay just didnt do it for me. I didn't have as much fun building this one as I have others. But then again building it wasn't awful either
Good kit for kit bashing
This kit has been around for years!! The molds are pretty used up. Lots of flash that will need cleaned up. On the good news side of this kit, Its a great kit for kit bashing. You can use or cut the rear tubs out to make other kits pro street. Its got the interior panels of a racecar so that could be used also. If you have a scale garage, it also has an engine stand.
Renewed hobby
Instructions a little unclear as to engine options, but I've not built a model in over 35 years so might just be me. Over all a good build but front window very thin and cracked down center. Had to make a new one from plastic. It may have been my fault that it cracked so I would recommend this kit. I must relearn skills not used in a long long time.
A Solid Kit with Great Detailing
This is one of the best AMT kits Ive built. The kit has great parts that allow the builder to really detail the dragster. I had to fabricate the rear suspension due to wanting a lower stance. I was impressed with the glass assembly especially the side windows. All the windows went in pretty easy. Overall this was a fantastic build.
The Pro Street Nova
The kits was loads of fun to build nothing fancy just a fun build. There was a little flash no more than expected. I did have problems with the Front & Rear windshields the plastic was really thin, I broke the front & Rear glass trying to install them. But if you overlook the few minor problems the kit was very easy & fun to build
Nova Pro Street
Excellent model to build. Everything fit very well. Very little trimming of parts. The detailed engine is a plus. and the tubbed out rear, makes this model very B/A looking from any angle. This is one of those models that any color will look good on. I highly recommend this model for hobbyist of all ages..
Great overall build...
Great build for someone stepping up skill levels from snap to lvl 2! Not much detail underneath the car but under the hood gives you a great opportunity to get really creative. The one thing I can say is the paint will make or break this one hobbiests, so have fun and pick a great color!!! Bigmjd77
Save your money
One of the worst kits I've seen in years. The wheels don't fit at all and the cheesey, fragile front chassis and suspension make this kit nearly impossible to get right. I have a few more AMT kits on my shelf, but if they're as bad as this one I'll stick with MPC from now on.
Once you get past the flashing the parts fit great!
This is a great little kit, basically a pro street version with narrowed rear and tubbed rear fenders! AMT made this kit in a couple of different versions but this one is the most fun to build and it comes with an engine stand and long block for display...very accurate scale small block Chevy.
Great value
Wow, what a jackpot of parts for the price. True there is some cleanup needed but thats not really unusual. I didn't ave the fit problems some others have talked about, I actually thought this was a good quality kit. I plan to buy another just because of all the extras that come with it.
1966 Chevy Nova Pro Street -- Plastic Model Car Kit -- 1/25 Scale
The package came in great shape and was not damaged. I was greatly pleased with the product I had bought for a friend as a Christmas gift! I recommend buying this product or any other from this company. The product quality is good, the shipping is fast, and the ordering process was easy!
NICE KIT
By: Mike
This was a fun kit to build. Went together easily. The front suspension was a little tricky so pay close attention to the directions. The body was flawless. With some nice paint & bare metal foil this car really pops. The chrome pieces were nicely plated & the overall stance is perfect.
Worst model kit I have made
This kit had way to much flash and mold defects that needed trimming and sanding. Paint, including primer did not want to adheer. Had to use 2-3 times as many coats of paint just to get an acceptable look. Many pieces did not fit well. Had to do a lot of manipulating of parts.
Great model
Was great putting this nova together you can put lots of up grades on it if you wish just open your imagination. Only thing I didn't like was being molded in blue but gray or black primer will fix that. All in all great model. I will purchase another one maybe 2???
A 2nd Go At It 20 Years Later
I first built this kit as a teenager and have fond memories of it. I am just getting back into the hobby and decided to build a second one. A nice feature is the spare long block and engine stand. We will see if the 2nd go round matches my boyhood memories!
Nice
A fun build so far still working on it all seems good when fitting together does have a good bit of flash that needs cleaning but not to much to make it undesirable..body has few mold lines that can be sanded easily..all and all its a nice kit.
Kit had way to much flash and part fit issues
The kit Had a lot of flash that had to be removed more than most models. Some parts were warped and had to be soaked in hot water to be straightend out. but once all the issues were taken care of the model turned out to be a very nice kit.
nice quality model
had fun with this . the parts fit nicely and it gives you lots of options for modifications . I chose to lower the front end a bit and add an Arizona plate . see the arctic metallic blue car in the picture library for my build
this item is something i was looking for for years
i have been looking for this car for many years and at this price going to order it maybe 2 of them also would like you to build some bigger engines and sell them like with sticking out of hood with blower
Treasure Trove of parts
I bought one of these to upgrade a Grumpy's Toy Vega, mainly the chassis which is nicely detailed, the whole kit is great ! I might buy another one to build as a pro stock lol....But molded in blue????
Cars Rule
I've always loved anything with a big engine and a loud exhaust system. And I've built a few muscle car kits when I was younger. My favorite a 1/144 scale 1970 Chevy Monte Carlo. Chevies rule.
1966 Cevy Nova Pro Street
Still in Assembly, required a minimal amount of trimming of excess plastic on edges.Motor mounts needed the most work to get engine to fit properly. All other parts have been test fitted and were spot on.
Lil deuce coupe
This is a cool kit to build, nice detailed interior with the option of using or not using a back seat, lots of chrome, good detailed under carriage, have built this kit a few times, I recommend this kit,
Good detail
Not a bad kit. Built it years ago. It goes together well for the most part. Only issue i had was the chassis didn't fit well in the body. No matter what i did, was always tilted to one side
Good kit
I liked the kit parts were molded very nice and clean detail. only problem i had was with the rear tires pushed up against the body but if you trim the rear end down just a little it fit great.
outlaws
if you want the outlaw cars, here's daddy Dave's Goliath. still working on it, engine fitment with headers in the way. could be frustrating for beginners. but I love tubed racers
fun kit to build!!
Have been modeling since I was around 10, have bought, and built this kit a few times over the years. Never get tired of it. This is a great kit for the beginner or the advanced modeler.
66 Nova
Over all this Nova is really fun to build .There is a lot of clean up from the molding possess but the finished product is well worth it . Love this car and probably will do another one
Badass Nova
I'm a nova lover so I don't see any cons can't wait to build it thinking I'm going to paint it the same color on the box anyways great model thanks Roy Phoenix
Fun kit enjoyed the build
This was one of my favorite kits I have built in the last year. All in all it is a simple kit just wish the front spindles were strongest was hard to get the wheels to set right
Great model
This is a great looking model to work with but being used to Revell's snap on wheels, these wheels were incredibly difficult to install but overall an excellent model finish
Very nice kit.
Few minor issues with the instructions, and the fact it is molded in blue plastic, but over all a very nice kit to build. Had a lot of fun putting a custom paint job on it.
Cool kit
I've built a few of this kits and here's my verdict: AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING! I threw some drag decals from the parts bin and boy I made that kit a looker
Nice kit!
I like building the classic Chevy models, it is a nicely I think its a neat thing that it has an extra engine on a stand so it would look nice in a garage setting.
GREAT KIT
Talk about a great kit at a great price. This Kit has many options for you to add your own personal touch to the car and is great for beginners to advance modelers
Dream car here
Great model from start to finish. Some flash but nothing awfull to deal with. Minimum mold lines and 10k ways to build this kit, and a great Hobbylinc price.
perfect
was delivered in a heavy box... this saves the model box from being damaged which I save... its the little things like that that will continue me using you
Heard a lot of complaints
I've hear a lot of complaints about this kit. I didn't experience any of that. Nice detail, no flash (on mine), went together well. I'll buy it again.
Nice '66
This took a bit of work to get the grill, headlights and rear bumper to fit exact but I am picky....well worth the time. One of my favorite Chevys.
future build
i just got this kit for xmas and looking forward to building it. Built one already so ready to try again cause the front suspension is tricky.
Nice kit
Easy to build, clear instructions. Limited build choices. whether you want to build box-stock or modified you will be happy with this kit.
great kit to have
this is a great kit to have not only to build but also to use parts for other builds. I kit bash a lot it makes the hobby so much more fun
Chevy II hot ride.
Model has some flash but over all it's a pro street build and it is only limited by your imagination. Go wild you won't be disappointed.
66 Chevy Nova
This is a great kit to build a true hot rod or outlaw car. I have built several of these over the years and all turned out awesome.
Average at best
I love the look of the '66 Nova but this model was average at best as the pieces didn't fit well together. An okay model
Great build
This was the first model I've built in almost 20 years and I was not disappointed. Fun build, clear instructions, awesome detail.
Nice
Nice kit but there are some downfalls like the axle when you try to put the rod in you cant put the tires in the right posishon.
nova
it is a good kit but the only problem that i had was everything was molded in blue a little hard to paint but it was good
Favorite model of car. Enjoyed this
Wish it wasn't already blue but it was okay. Hard to find test or paint in my area wish Imwould've ordered through you

66 nova
This is a great kit to build as is or to use when kitbashing. I built a model of a 1:1 car that my brother had.
awesome kit
Awesome car. Needs tread on the rear tires. It's more like a pro stock drag car than a pro street drag car.
1966 nova pro street
really like this kit haven't built it yet only thing I didn't like it was cast in a terrible color of blue
Good model
By: mfunu2
Engine compartment needed a little work so all 4sides stayed together, but this model is really a good one
Not worth the money
The mold for the parts are terrible it leaves to much extra plastic and the windows are molded to thin .
Nice Kit
Very nice model to build. Parts matched up well. If you enjoy car model building, you will love this kit.
1966 Chevy nova
