Reviews : Caboose Operating Ground Throw

I needed some way to control my turnouts. Switch machines were too expensive. I looked at servos, but both the switch machines and servos would require under the layout work. So I looked at ground throws and decided to try them. I bought six of the 206S throws. The instructions were easy to follow, and after I had installed a couple, it became easier. I am pleased with the result and plan to install more of them. I still need to mark the throws for straight or diverging routes. The compatibility chart at Caboose Industries' website helped to choose the correct throws. There are three items that I wished had been in the product description: 1. What size wire would fit in the hole in the throw bar. 2. Could you use either end of the throw bar. The photo showed one end have pins to insert in the turnout. But did the other end have a hole for a wire? 3. Which is better? The 206S with fixed ends or one with different end fittings to choose from. Having never installed a ground throw, did I need to only choose a model for N scale with .135 travel? Or could I use those with .165 travel and just mount it further from the track? I would recommend this product.

I was hesitant, wondering if these throws would actually create enough pressure on the points to ensure my power-routing turnouts would work. Well, the springs inside these units are strong and really hold the points in place, enabling the power-routing function to work. And, they are fun to throw.....just like the real thing.

This product is very prototypical and simple to install and operate.
