The 'Kaga', a great kit!
Hasegawa has continued to produce a number of great kits for the IJN's ships. The fleet carrier 'Kaga' - one of the Pearl Harbor Attack carriers that was sunk by the Americans at Midway - is 1 of these. The ship's body, as you can see in the photo of the kit's box, has an open area directly below the front of the flight deck. When assembling the kit this was somewhat challenging to place the struts on the side of the hull that hold that part of the flight deck up. Masts can be placed either in 'battle' or 'cruising' mode, depending on the modeller's choice. Plane elevators can also be placed in the 'up' or 'down' positions. Antiaircraft defenses on the sides of the ship were fairly easy to put together. The kit also comes with a large number of planes which can be painted & placed on the flight deck; these include fighters, torpedo bombers & dive bombers. This is a great kit that does take a good amount of time to assemble.
