I OWN this book (and several other Building Guides): I've found that the more I look at & get educated by Great Model Makers out there, I pick up new skills and techniques (many times on the 1st time I experiment) And-I don't make frustrating beginner mistakes. You talk to a builder while looking at their project...you learn some tips. Do you take NOTES while they're talking?? This book SHOWS you (step-by-step) how & what you're looking at to get the final effects. The pictures can make you feel I can't make it look that good...the point is to PRACTICE the basics (And, Play!!) until you feel comfortable.
