Very nice Log car kit.
The kit comes with TWO log car frames and the detail parts to complete each less trucks and couplers. High detail needing little cleanup of flash on the white metal parts. Basically, you clean up the parts, paint the frame, add the provided rails/details such as brake wheels and cylinders. Then you add couplers and trucks which you have to purchase separately. A few holes need drilled and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. They also give you a little back ground on this car type.
As for the couplers you can use Kadee brand which the instructions tell you how to install. The trucks you have more room to pick a set you want to use such as Kadee, Keystone, or MDC brands. The kit comes with the correct screw size to attach the trucks.
These log buggie cars were general found in the Midwest to Eastern US. I haven't found many examples of them being used in the Western US. The era they find best in 1910's to 1920's give or take 5 years on each end.
The rails atop the cars was used for self moving log loaders such as Barnhart or American. Keystone used to make a Barnhart that fits the cars nicely. IHC and Rio Grande also produced suitable loaders for these buggies in HO.
