Reviews : Moebius 2010 International Lonestar

First: HORRID INSTRUCTIONS. Ok, it has some photos, which is nice, but only SOME. Same thing with the illustrations - there's SOME, but not near enough. Instructions tell you to mount such-and-such part, but not HOW or WHERE. On the plus side, once you figure out where something goes, fitment is good (for the most part..). Second: HORRID DECALS. Mine are so fragile as to be useless. The logos on the interior shattered while taking them off the backing paper; the dash is too raised for the decals, but not enough good detail to paint. NO molded-in gauge details and the decals are useless. Third: I had NO TIRES in the kit! I unsealed it and was checking out the multitude of sprues, and I had to email Moebius - I had some Moebius aftermarket tires and wheels. An aside on this - the Moebius aftermarket wheel sets are a direct replacement (even to the part numbers!) for the kit wheels and tires. I'm using the super singles on the drives, and they pop right on. Fourth: Front cab cap doesn't fit square on my kit; I had to use a fair amount of putty to fill the gaps, then around 3 hours filing and sanding the seams into shape. The top aero cap is too warped to use at all. The center grill strut on the hood is FRAGILE. The mesh is cool! On the hood mount at the frame, I put a bit of 0.8mm sheet styrene between the frame and mount, and the hood sits straight. The steer tire mounts are nearly impossible to set up where the tires rotate, but it looks like it can be done by adding locator pins made from rod styrene. The steering mechanism is fiddly, but works smoothly. The oil pan is mounted backwards - the deep end should be at the back; otherwise the pan would be hit by the steer axle on every bump, if this were a real truck! By doing this, the front fuel tank support needs to be mounted behind the bell housing instead of in front, as the instructions show. Interior detail is nice. Be sure and leave the sleeper windows CLEAR, so you can look inside the sleeper! The gentleman indicating the frame-mounted lower fenders need to be trimmed - I think he has them upside down; in his photos, he shows one trimmed down as the passenger side - the part is actually the driver's side. The smaller end should be up. I expected more from Moebius on this kit. I'm disappointed. It does come out to a neat looking truck, but a LOT of work will need to be done to get it there. Unless you have a strong desire to have a LoneStar in your collection, skip this one..

The instructions with this kit are pitiful! You need to get Revell of Germany's Instructions. Here is how; Google 2010 International LoneStar Revell.de. Open your first hit. This is Revell of Germany's LoneStar. It essentially the same kit. On the right side of the page just below the color chips is a PDF file in yellow font. Click and save to you computer. Now put the instructions that came with the kit in the bottom of your birdcage. The next biggest challenge with this kit is hood to body and fender fit (lower fender to upper fender). Work on the hood to cowl fit first then upper to lower fenders next. If you don't get this right you will end up with a 6mm gap between the upper and lower fenders.I would recommend that you cut each lower fender North to South on the same plane that the mounting pin is molded to. This decreases the width of the lower fender and allows you to close the hood and fit each lower fender to upper fender separately by glueing them directly to the mounting brackets. (There is a picture of this fender modification in the LoneStar photos. The silver and purple truck). Leave the coolant bottle off until you get the hood and fender fit completed. You can remove/cut those tabs from the lower cab body. The main driveshaft on my kit was 2mm too short and the one between the differentials was 2mm too long. The last thing that troubles me about this kit was that not much thought was given to hiding the tree sprues on chrome parts example being drivers side cab steps, top edge of sun visor and the lower steps on the tool box. But regardless of the above, I would rate this kit at 5 stars.

This kit is awsome!. The details are just amzing and the amount of chrome blows my mind even after almost finishing this kit. The decal sheet has awsome woodgrain and dash decals you wont find on other kits and the interior of the bunk is detailed down to the cabinets even. This kit is not for the begginer thats for sure!. I wouldnt attempt to build this kot untill having built a few kits already. the engine is one my favorite parts it is so realistic. The construction guide is not printed in the best layout however if youve built a few big rigs before then you shouldnt have any problems with this kit. check off the parts as you go and dont forget about the updated instruction sheet laying at the bottum of the kit for the fuel tanks!. Overall this is one of the newest big rig kits on the market with one of the highest parts counts with the highest level of detail youll find in a kit!. This one is cheaper than some of the re-issued forign kits and being its made with todays tooling makes this kit a joy to assemble. this is a must have for the big rig builders.

I love semis and this is definitely a kit i like it goes good for my diorama of truckers this diorama features many trucks in a yard where they will eventually make their next stop and when I saw this kit I had to add it to the diorama this kit looks very nice and will look even nicer when I get a trailer behind it this kit is very nicely detailed and i love it i might just pick up a second one for the diorama PROS: nicely detailed, fun to build, gives you a challenger, minimal to no flash CONS: Kind of expensive depending on your budget if you are thinking of picking up this kit but don’t have a lot of money don’t stress it cause the Pete 359 and Kenworth W900 from Revell are also just as good but if you do have the money pick it up it is really an awesome kit and you will be satisfied and will do well for dioramas

I have to admit I was skeptical having never built a Moebius kit of any type. After reading the reviews citing poor instructions I was a bit worried about how it would turn out. The kit was a pure pleasure to build. Everything fit as it should. Take your time and read the instructions first! Then build up your sub assemblies before painting and test fit every part. You will have a wonderful model kit you can very proud to display. I have ordered 2 more Moebius kits. The 1961 Pontiac Ventura, and the 1952 Hudson Hornet(Mel's Diner edition). Hobbylinc is an awesome source for us old school builders. Best prices around and the rewards system is fantastic!

I finally caved and bought this kit. I was really on the fence regarding this trucks styling. I've come to the conclusion that you have to go over the top on it's build. No fleet or boring paint jobs. This kit has to be built like a hotrod. Multi color pearl or candy paint jobs are a must. Flames would even work! Are Texas plates and a livestock trailer required? Oh, the instructions are for children. You don't need them and they are only for reference. If you haven't lived through the AMT truck kits, stop here and go buy a nice shiny 1:50 die-cast.

First off, WORST INSTRUCTIONS EVER! I should have downloaded the Revell instructions. It would have saved me a good two days build time. Print instructions were to vague as were the photographs. Invest in the Revell instructions. They have a clear, easy to understand build manual. It’s an old Revell kit anyway. Just rebranded for Moebius. That being said, a very handsome reproduction of the IH Lonestar will result. Great detail throughout, and nice fit, once you find out where the parts go. I did the Erb refrigeration lines and will get a matching trailer.

This is one of the most detailed kits I’ve built so far. But listen to others and download the Revell instructions..TRUST ME!!, I ended up referring to both sets when building. The added wood grain decals for the interior are a nice added touch. I really like how the Morbius kits go together (I’ve also built their 53’ reefer and 48’ chambered flatbed). You will not regret sending the money on this kit. Time your time, study all instructions and enjoy.

This kit has some of the finest detail work I've ever seen, superb chrome, and the best truck interior detail ever! The unique color instructions include numerous helpful photos and drawings, but the TEXT of the instructions contain so many errors, shortcomings, and omissions, it can be a real challenge to complete this model. Very frustrating! Still, the properly completed model is gorgeous, so I'd call this one For Very Experienced Builders Only.

Don't let the poor instruction sheet scare you away from building this kit. You can download a free set of the Revell of Germany instructions for this kit. The only differences in the kits is the decals and box. I really like this truck kit. I have 6 of them to build in different versions. Two of those versions are the different sleeper heights. All you have to do is leave the top of the sleeper off to build the short version.

I built the Prostar from Moebius and it was a fantastic model with perfect fitment. This one, however was absolute garbage for fitment. I ended up scrapping it. Not sure if it sat too long in a warehouse or what, but I was extremely disappointed to say the least.

Good kit and the end result is a nice very detailed model of the actual thing. The instructions are a little difficult to follow since they are not like other kits. Its a good fun kit and I would get another one!

This is a very detailed truck. The instruction book was sometimes vague so it was a challenge but it was well worth it. I think mine turned out great!Would love to build another one with the great dane trailer.

So far, I like the overall content of the model. This will be a fun build as I enjoy the Big Rigs the most. WIll post pictures upon completion.

I've built this kit before about 5 years ago, I've enjoyed it so much and look forward to the 2nd time around.
