Reviews : Revell-Monogram 1966 Shelby GT350H

The 1966 GT-350H by Revell is an excellent kit. The parts fit well together, the interior is detailed, and the powertrain is accurate. I have built this kit several times in different variations. The only disappointment for me is the decals. Revell includes the gold Le Mans stripes as decals, but they are more brown than gold and are not really metallic. I recommend painting the stripes. However, the decals in the Revell of Germany version are far superior. However, that version of the kit is more expensive and more difficult to find. Monogram originally tooled the kit in the mid-1980s, but it has held up exceptionally well and is well-engineered. I have not had any trouble with these kits not fitting or having excess flash on the parts. The rear quarter windows can be fiddly because they have to be held in place while the glue dries. The gluing surface is only the edges, which are not a tight fit. I consider these the most challenging parts of the model. A newer modeler with relatively little experience would be fine with the GT-350H construction. With a bit more experience, painting the stripes would not pose an issue either. I have enjoyed building this kit in several variations. However, I rate this version of the GT-350H with four stars because of the low-quality decals compared to those found in the Revell of Germany kit. I would be happy if Revell included these superior decals in the American Revell kits.

Let me say at the outset that the price was what caught my attention. Little did I know that the price would be an indicator of just how old this kit is, and how low the new Revell will stoop to make a profit on molds that should be replaced rather than reissued. I wouldn't be surprised if the price is an indicator that this kit will not be re-run after the remaining stock is sold out. Thus, never to see such a low price again. Regardless of the reasons for this release, it is easy to see how poorly a worn out mold does in replicating itself. Pins that are supposed to match up with very visible pinholes, simply do not exist any more. Why? Because they were so worn down, if you get a small nub where a pin should be, you're lucky. Also, when it's necessary to apply body pans after assembling the model, look out! You will find gaps that can not easily be dealt with. Consequently, I can only recommend this kit if the potential buyer is a rookie in the hobby and has no aspirations of building a model that he can proudly display to his friends. In other words, it would just be a practice kit.

Well, this is turning out to be Mustang Month at my place! My Father-In-Law owned a 1965 Mustang Fastback 2+2 with the big engine (he bought it new in '65) so I wanted to make a model of it for his upcoming birthday. I took this kit as the base and modified it using parts from the Monogram/Revell 1964-1/2 Mustang Convertible kit. I added some photo-etched details, engine wiring, plumbing and some custom decals I made in Photoshop and the result was a pretty good representation of his Fastback. I'll make the second kit as the Shelby! There were a few fit issues with the rear pan, not related to my modifications. A little sanding and cutting resolved that. The rear side window louvers need some work to make them fit well, too. Overall, the kit is as good as you would expect from Monogram/Revell. No real problems that can't be overcome by taking your time plus a little test-fitting and sanding.

I'm not sure what to say about this kit. I bought 2 of these, and the difference between them was like night and day. One was a disaster, looking at one of the parts trees was like looking at a solid sheet of plastic, and the chrome was foggy,and one of the tires was malformed. The other kit was great,no flash,just a couple seam lines to sand down,the chrome was brite and shiny and the tires all look great. I hope the good kit is the norm and the bad one is just a one time screwup but I don't know which version you can expect. I'm only saying I recommend buying this because of the good one.

This is a great kit. The instructions are nice and clear and easy to follow. There is very little clean up of the parts and they all fit together as they should. The details are nice on this kit. It has a nicely detailed interior as well as a complete engine. One nice thing about automobile models is the amount of modifications that can be done to them. The amount of aftermarket parts or parts from different kits can really set the models apart. I would recommend this kit for the beginner to the experienced modeler. It is a decent price to begin your hobby, or perfect your skills.

I have to admit having a soft spot for classic Mustangs, and this kit fits right in. It's a solid representation of the '66 Shelby GT350H (the H is for Hertz rentals). I had no fit issues nor was there very much in the way of flash. The only issue I had was the tires were missing from the kit. Unfortunately I didn't find this out until much too late to return it, but Revell took care of the issue in a timely manner. It took a bit longer to receive the replacements since they now come from Germany but it wasn't too bad.

This is an older Monogram 1/24 scale tooling that is still nice for it's age. It's a fairly low parts count kit with very little flash to clean up before building. Assembly is pretty straight-forward and the parts fit is very good. Multi-colored stripe decals allows you to build in pretty much any color, including the black/gold on the box art. The decals are pretty tricky to apply, especially on the hood, so patience and care are necessary for a good outcome. Overall though, I would have to highly recommend this one!

Impressed with the body no flash nothing to clean up very clean mold I used Pegasus radar style rims and tires they look like Cragar SS to me decals on and blow bumpers are hard to get straight take your time you can do it custom front coils traction bars subframe connectors plug wires gauges heater hose off them go for racing driver figure from hobbylinc the stripes do life nice and flat I recommend testors decal set it lets them slide around a little I highly recommended details are great it's just a really cool model

when I built this kit it was going together great, until I got to the nose. the front clip has some definite issues on the right side. at least when you get frustrated with it you can always make a crashed car diorama. I personally used fire crackers for the new years festivities. being a revell you may get a ton of good ones but you always at some point get a dud. I'm sure I got the dud so I won't knock it entirely as it seems other reviewers got decent kits

This is a great kit. I botched the paint job on one near the end of completion, then I built another one to make up for it. Great fit, clear instructions, and plenty of detail. Typically I have inconsistent kits when it comes to American muscle, but this is not a kit that will give you problems. It had enough complexity to keep you interested, but nothing tricky so that you cannot complete a great looking model.

Like other reviewers, I grew up in the beginning of the Mustang era. Most parts fit well. The hardest part for me was those wide, gold stripe decals. Some of them were not the right length, and it was hard to get the ones behind the front bumper in place. I managed, but I don't know if I'd try another one with the decals. The kit itself was fine. Not a lot of options. Pretty basic.

I have enjoyed building several of these GT350s. They go together well, although the molds are getting quite old and starting to have some flash on the parts. The decals are nice, but must be applied carefully. I use Solvaset to help them settle on the curves over the hood scoop. After they dry, some relief cuts can be made in the decal and solvaset re-applied to help the decal settle.

Nice kit. The decals are very hard to work with on the hood. I ended up ditching them altogether and painting mine a different color. Kudo's to people who make the decals work... Otherwise a nicely engineered kit, nice underbody detail, ok interior. The badges on the body are very shallow, I didn't feel confident enough to try to paint them.

this is a fun build and it would be a great build for a beginner, and i think experienced modlers would find it enjoyabe also , the kit is an older one and it does have some flash on the parts but not to bad . i would recommend using some decal solvent to help hold the decals down , i use tamiyas mark fit strong and i have never had any issues with it

I had some issues, but they were petty little things most people wouldn't even notice. Overall, great beginning model. My best pro tip for begginers doing this model is dont use the racing stripes, even I tore them while applying them, use masking tape if you want racing stripes, i personally use Scotch blue tape.

This brings back memories for me I worked for a Ford dealership back in 1965 as a new car make ready mechanic I worked on a lot of different style Mustangs.I test drove this exact car as the model.It was exciting to me and this car was super fast.I enjoyed building this kit it was a lot of fun.

every part went together great and not much work to get it to fit right. great modeling lines and alot of ways to make it you own or make it stock. would recommend it to every one. one part you have to work to get fitting right is the rear body panel and the front bumper

This was a well made model. This kit had no flash and minimal mold lines. I put it together with no fit issues. The interior is minalistic, but you won't be able to see much of it anyway. I thoroughly enjoyed this kit and I highly recommend it!

This classic has alot of potential, it builds up into a nice Shelby GT350H, & looks like it would also build into a NICE 65 Fastback as long as you don't mind a scooped hood... Decals could be better , which is my only real complaint...

This was a sharp looking model when finished. The only problem I had was trying to align the center stripes on the hood. Had to do a little bit of trim on it to get it looking right. Other than that nice model to work on.

Not a lot of options. This kits pretty much meant to be built like the real car. A bit hard to get the chassis in but not impossible. Clean mold lines and little flashing. Everything went together pretty well

Everything was pretty much straight forward. My model definitely doesn't look as good as the photo on the box. This was my first model that I have done in years and I am definitely a bit rusty at it.

This is a pretty good kit no fit issues good detail the only set back is the decals Era a bit troublesome but with some decal solvent they'll lay down and build into a nice car.

This was a very easy kit to build and I enjoyed it. All of the pieces fit without much trimming and I would recommend this kit to any one getting started in the hobby!

I had no noteworthy problems with my kit, and the completed model looks nice (not as nice as the absolutely stunning example on the box top, but pretty nice).

I absoulutly love the Shelby Mustang gt350 I always have and always will. I thought that it looked really cool. I think any car lover would want this car.

Build went well. very little flash, I didn't mess with the decals. I'm going to buy a second and get a little more detailed.

I've built six of these and have a couple more in boxes. Very nice kit. Goes together easily. Nice details. Will buy another one.

Easy kit to build, minimal flash or seams. Not super detailed but if you make this kit your own it'll turn out great

did this one in a red pepper paint may do another one like it should be .... but over all nice kit to work with..

Instructions are somewhat clear. But some instructions are unclear. Some parts are hard to assemble.

Although a few steps were kind of challenging, overall it was pretty easy and fun to build.

Good beginner model for level 2 modelers. Very simple.
