Reviews : Revell-Germany B-24D Liberator Bomber Plane

In keeping with my US Navy Mitchell build, I decided to model the only four-engine heavy bomber the Navy regularly used during World War 2. They were used for anti-submarine patrol, long range bombing in the Pacific theatre, weather observation and photo-recon missions. I actually had the kit I used for the build for a few years and I have a few aftermarket parts for it that may not be available anymore. The Revell-Monogram B-24D kit represents an early Liberator with no ball turret and the plane I was modelling had one. Koster Aero Enterprises made a retrofit set for this kit that included the parts for the ball turret and an Emerson turret for the nose position as an option for the B-24J. The owner of KAE was actually a mold maker for Monogram so needless to say his stuff fit their models very well. The cockpit is reasonably detailed but with all of the framing on the canopy not much is really visible when assembled. The bomb bay is very large so if you build it with the doors open at least add the bombs and racks if nothing else. The wheel bays are basic but Vector Resin makes some really nice ones along with engine nacelle upgrades and propellers. Eduard still makes photoetched sets for the interior and exterior so bringing this kit into the present is not difficult. I finished her in the Atlantic scheme of dark gray upper surfaces with white sides and undersurfaces. Seeing the Liberator in a naval color scheme is quite a change from the norm and I may try some other aircraft in camo colors not normally associated with their type or service.
