Reviews : Tamiya Feldkuche German Field Kitchen Scenery

This review is based on the 1978 release of the horse-drawn German field kitchen with two horses. It could be either displayed in tow by the horses or deployed in the field preparing a meal for its unit. I went with the transporting version and I can tell you that it was fun and challenging. I have owned this particular kit since I was a kid. Only took me fifty years to get around to it. Everything went together perfectly, and while there is the usual seams or knockout marks to deal with, this kit is almost perfection. The figure is typical Tamiya, circa 70’s, where the guy scales out to about 5’4” tall – but since he is seated, no biggie. The horses are beautiful and very realistic. One is a draft horse and the other a standard. The field kitchen comes in two pieces, the front carried utensils and additional daily provisions, while the back was basically a cooking pot with a coffee maker on side and heating/storage areas surrounding it. Note: a modeler could put pneumatic tires on it and draw it behind any vehicle. If you can get your hands on it, you won’t be disappointed. My biggest challenge was the harness and tack. You will have to cut it from one piece of styrene, and the widths of some (the reins, for example) are VERY thin. Highly recommended.

I really like and enjoy this kit. I am planning a much larger diorama and this will be included within the diorama. I have built two of them and had no issues other than with the wheels and the part that connects the wheels to the stove or limber. You must be careful putting the wheels on or you could easily break the axle. Combine this with the Tamiya 35129 and the MiniArt 35062 and you have an outstanding diorama of German soldiers at rest and getting one of their daily meals. All combined, I probably had this item and the MiniArt item completed in about 24-30 hours. That said, I take a lot of time painting the soldiers and their uniforms as best as I can to my ability. Part of my problem is that I suffer from essential tremors and sometimes have to take a break and repaint an item where I wound up shaking and put paint all over the item. Overall, I would highly recommend this product to others, friends, and family, especially if you are going to have a larger diorama. This kit adds a little bit of realism to the dioramas and stand out on the field.

This model underwhelmed me when I first saw it. For me this was and is a must have. Initially my photos are not in a diorama but this model lends itself as an accent to any setting. Called a goulash cannon by the soldiers this vehicle was a welcome sight when it approached hungry men. Guy Saher in his Forgotten Soldier mentioned more than once how they were served thick, glutious, not good food. For one thing, colder temperatures required a higher fat content to food. This thing could cook 52.8 galllons of stew, fired by coal preferably and wood if necessary. Available, is Gulaschkanone by Scott L. Thompson. Reviews say it is very imforative if biased. Buy two of these. One to use and one to put back. Some years ago, Tiger came out in hardback. It was less than 30 dollars. Today, 300 will probably not buy a good used copy. Just saying. Opportunity may be at my doorstep

Wonderful kit for under $20. So many accessories it’s crazy. You also get the limber trailer and a good mix of food items. As far as the figures, I actually think these guys are more detailed than your average Tamiyas. Great relaxed expressions allowing for more serene downtime dioramas. The mustachio’d cook is probably my fave. Jolly fellow who clearly loves to cook for the lads. Combine this set with TAM35129 and you’ve got a great camp scene. Highly recommended kit!

My build of the Tamiya German field kitchen went quite smoothly and was a very enjoyable experience. This company’s reputation for accuracy, detail, and excellent fitting of the different parts came through once again with this model. I plan to join it up with the Krupp Protze truck, also by Tamiya. I have no negative comments about this kit.

No horses. No flash. One field bag. Four different loafs of bread. ( shape ) Two milk cans. ( 30 gallon size ) No weapons. Molded in medium grey plastic. No flash.

I really like this kit. Not only is the actual kitchen 'vehicle' great, but it includes some very nice figures and a few cool extras like food bag, small barrel, etc.

A fun little kit, with lots of detail. will make a fine addition to my diorama.

I plan on ordering this and add it to a rest area that I have built.
