Reviews : Tamiya German SdKfz 165 Hummel Heavy Self-Propelled Howitzer

Another excellent kit from Tamiya. This kit is a high value for the price of this kit, as it includes three crew figures, ammo, shell casings and their respective ammo boxes. The fit of the parts is excellent. Tracks are link and length. The upper lengths of track have molded in sag detail that is accurately reproduced. A Tamiya metal barrel, with rifling detail, for this kit can be purchased separately. If not, then a two piece barrel is provided in the kit. Interior detail parts include an MG 42, gun cleaning rod and metal storage boxes. Pioneer tools, jack and tool clamps are adequately detailed for this kit. Decals are on the thick side, but will go on with some Micro set solution. Fit of the fighting compartment panels is better than the Dragon kit of this same vehicle. The more reasonable price of the Tamiya Kit over the Dragon version was the deal breaker for me. I would recommend this kit for builders with airbrush painting skills if they intend to build this self propelled Howitzer in the late war tri-tonal camouflage paint scheme.

This kit is fantastic, it compares well to the Nashorn. Which is the same frame, difference is a 105. But the model is cool, well detailed also comes with 3 figures plus shells and crates. Goes together well, parts fit tight in the end it looks great. Another fine kit put out by Tamiya. It is worth the money. You will not be sorry.

I love Tamiya military miniatures for their realism, accuracy, and ease of assembly. The Hummel model kit is no exception. The assembly instructions are detailed but but not complex to the point of frustration. I love this kit!
