Review Summary

The reviews highlight a consistent theme of challenging assembly with this kit, citing issues like excessive flash, poor fit of parts, and significant gaps in components such as the hull and cabin walls. Many note the need for extensive puttying, sanding, and filing, suggesting it’s a kit best suited for experienced modelers seeking a challenge. While some appreciate the subject matter and potential for a rewarding build, others express frustration with the outdated tooling and lack of detail in visible areas.

Tough build

By: no.1silverback (Mesa Az)

Strangely I enjoy testing myself on kits like this that many find frustrating. The parts are reasonably clean but the fit leaves MUCH to be desired. Don't start this one unless you're ready to a lot of puttying and sanding. If you fight your way through, it does finish out to a very sharp boat.

What a shame

For me this is a great subject (pleasure boats) example of which are seen too infrequently in the modeling world. This kit appeared to me to be a re-release of an older kit so my expectations of quality were not high. While there was less flash than I expected difficulty in construction was more than I expected. While assembling the four piece hull 1/8 gaps were not uncommon. Once I started on the cabin wall 1/4 gaps appeared. There are no alignment pins and the lugs and other obstructions on the plastic that are supposed to aid in assembly get in the way more than help. At times you will wish you had 3 hands during assembly. I would recommend this kit if you are looking to develop your skills in filing, filling and fitting (a bargain leaning experience at this price) or if you want to experience what plastic kits were like in the old days else I would avoid the frustration this kit will likely cause.

Again, nice boat, Tough kit.

By: Bob A. (Dunmore Pa.)

Again , a good subject, as there are not too many 1/25 sport boats out there, but sadly, really worn molds, or something, cause like the '59 Coronado, this one is loaded with flash, and poor fit of parts. Hopefully Round2 will upgrade the tooling for these two kits in the future. Assembly is pretty much the same as with the Coronado, fitting , fileing, filling , etc. A real job to make it look like something. Excellent , if you are looking for a Challenge!! A little more detail below decks in the cabin would really help, as this area is readily visible on the finished model. The decals are nice Cartograph but some wood grain added to the sheet where required on the kit would be an added attraction to these kits. Not recommended for Novice, or even Experienced modelers, these kits until re-tooled, will remain in the realm of the Senior or Master Modeler.
