This is an ok model. It has ok detail, ok instructions, and ok decals. It must come from a very old mold though as the fit is pretty bad, and there is a lot of flash that needs trimming. Being a WWI plane, it is understandable finicky in some respects (I think that attaching the upper wing on biplanes is a sort of rite of passage), but sometimes the model can be downright frustrating. Getting the lower wing on properly is a chore, placing the engine properly is guesswork, and even getting the fuselage halves to fit together and accept the engine assemble is a surprisingly difficult task. There is a rigging guide, but it's difficult to see where the wire bracing is actually supposed to go. At least the decals are of good quality, and when you finish you will be filled with a sense of pride for actually getting the thing together. I definitely wouldn't recommend this to the beginner. If you're a mediocre modeler like me, and you're up for a challenge, this can be a fun one, just don't expect a walk in the park.

The Roden 1/72 scale Pfalz D.IIIa is a detailed, affordable, and accurate representation of the WWI fighter. While featuring excellent, thin wings, it requires experience to manage high amounts of flash and delicate, fragile parts like the struts. Fit and assembly are generally good, though the top wing and landing gear assembly require patience and attention to alignment. With some care and patience it could be made into a very nice replica of this very handsome WW1 fighter. The color painting guide is very clear to understand and follow, with very nice decals for 3 different aircraft. It is a model of great quality and beauty, but it is intended for modelers with some experience in WWI aircraft.
